What we believe

We are sons and daughters of the Protestant Reformation begun 490 years ago by a German Roman Catholic Priest named Martin Luther, and as Christians of this heritage we believe:

  • Jesus is Lord of Lords and King of Kings
  • The Word of God is Truth
  • We are all sinners and need God's saving Grace
  • Jesus came and died in our place and then rose from the dead to save us from those sins!
  • It's all about Jesus, there is no other Way!
  • We are committed to the concept of the Priesthood of All Believers - we are all ministers to each other.  God has chosen flawed clay vessels to bear His Word to all the world.
  • We celebrate the gifts and talents of all of God's children - God makes no distinction between men and women in giving them these gifts, we make no distinction in encouraging the exercise of them in His service.
  • Arise! seeks to be a "new wineskin" - never let the seven last words of the church be heard -"we've never done it that way before."

 - and all this is done without any help from us!  We confess that we are by our very nature sinful and don't even possess the ability to choose to call upon Jesus for help.  We come to him and lay all our cares at the foot of the Cross because we are called through a Faith that has been freely given to us by the Holy Spirit.

Essential 100 Challenge

We have begun reading the Bible using a plan designed to cultivate a habit of reading Scripture.

This plan takes the story of God's creation and His plan of salvation for Mankind and covers the "highlights" in 100 bite-sized readings.  50 from the Old Testament, and 50 from the New Testament.

Learn more about the plan at the E100 Challenge website.

Peace,

Mark

We are now in the season after Pentecost.  Also historically known as "ordinary time" as it is the longest season of the church year - running from Pentecost in the spring until the start of Advent again in late fall!

Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ

On June 22, 2008 we held our final service.  Members of Arise! have moved from the area or have gone down the road to worship with Prince of Peace in Coventry, a congregation of the LC-MS whom we have had very good relations with during our existence.

Mark Schimmel has been called to be the pastor of New Life Lutheran Church in Myrtle Beach, SC and will tentatively begin there late July.

If you are looking for a place to worship in this area we heartily recommend Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Coventry or Hope Lutheran Church in Storrs.

If you are just looking for an LCMC presence in CT please get in touch with Pastor Steve Broers at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cornwall, CT.  Pastor Broers is an LCMC pastor serving an ELCA congregation.

Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ (LCMC) is a centrist, post-denominational association of Lutheran congregations. LCMC grew out of the reform movement within the ELCA known as the WordAlone Network.
